SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday exhumed the body of a Srinagar resident almost two months after his “death”. The autopsy of the body is underway, informed sources said.

The body whose body was exhumed was identified as Abiroo Shafi, son of Mohammad Shafi. A resident of Salfia Colony in Nowgam, police said the deceased was a property dealer.

The exhumation took place after the family registered a complaint with the police indicating the foul play in his death. Imroz was living in a nuclear family with his wife and a minor daughter, slightly at a distance from his two brothers and father.

“We may not be able to tell you details as the case is under investigation,” concerned DySP told Kashmir Life. “Any disclosure at this stage will compromise the investigation process.”

Informed sources, however, said the police have detained one person as well. The detained person was identified as a local Molvi. Reports said the arrest was done on basis of some call details.

Abiroo died in early April or late March and was considered a normal death. But there have been some developments in the family that led to certain suspicions on basis of which Mohammad Shafi approached the police seeking urgent investigations.
