Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday registered an FIR against the contractor for violation of prohibitory orders in south Kashmir’s Awantipora town of Pulwama district.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “Police today arrested a contractor on the directions of Magistrate for violating the government orders issued U/s 144 CrPC over COVID-19.”

“Magistrate, has directed Awantipora police regarding the violation of Govt orders by one contractor identified as Muneer Ahmad Mir resident of  Drangbal, Pampore who had accommodated 35 labourers in his house for engaging them at a construction site,” said the spokesman.

“He was directed by the District administration to keep the said labourers under home quarantine due to their recent travel history to the valley,” he said.

However, the contractor defies the orders and engaged the workers in construction work at Drangabal Pampore thereby endangering the life of others, he added.

He said, “He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pampore where he remains in custody.”

“Case FIR no 21/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard and investigation taken up. Police have once again requested the general public to follow the restrictions imposed by District Magistrates in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and those who are violating the restrictions will be dealt strictly,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
