Police Foil Narcotics Smuggling Bid, Seize 24.5 kg Contraband in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics after recovering 24.5 kilogrammes of contraband bhang leaves in the jurisdiction of Police Station Pahalgam.

According to officials, a police team from PS Pahalgam, deputed for census duty in Awoora village, noticed a suspicious man pushing an iron single-tyre handcart loaded with sacks near Awoora Nallah. On seeing the police vehicle, the individual abandoned the cart and fled into a nearby forest.

The police secured the cart and inspected the sacks, which were found to contain half-dried bhang leaves weighing 24.50 kg. A case under FIR No. 76/2025 U/S 8, 20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Pahalgam, and an investigation was launched.

During the investigation, the accused was identified as Gulam Nabi Khatana, son of Abdul Rashid and resident of Nallah Awoora. He remains absconding, and efforts are ongoing to arrest him.

Police said they remain committed to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to report any information related to narcotic activities.
