SRINAGAR: Police on Monday foiled the protest march of Physically challenged people who were demanding the authorities should stop violating their basic rights.

The Physically challenged persons raised slogans assembled at Press Enclave here under the banner of J&K Handicapped Association.

They were scheduled to take a protest march from the Press Enclave to Secretariat. They were demanding the authorities should stop violating their basic rights.

However, Police disallowed the protestors to carry out the march and arrested the union president, following which they dispersed peacefully.

The protestors said that the Disabilities act 2016 is still not implemented in the valley even after five years and there is no such special Recruited drive for qualified disabled person.

Shahnawaz Ahmed Wani said, “We also have a family to look after and even if the government is providing assistance of rupees one thousand that’s not enough to fulfill our daily needs.”

Abdul Rashid Bhat, J&K handicapped Association president before his arrest said that they have already raised their issues but all goes in vain as the government is not paying attention towards them.

The protestors requested the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter.
