Dozens of Public Health Department were arrested on Thursday as police foiled their march as they tried to advance towards Chief Minister’s Gupkar residence.
The casual labourers and daily wagers of the PHE department were protesting to press for their demands.
The protesters were alleging Government of failing to regularize their services and release of wages on a monthly basis.
The protesters assembled under the banner of All Kashmir PHE Causal Labourers Association at Municipal Park and raised slogans against the government. As they proceeded towards the CM residence the large contingent of police swung into action and chased them away. It created trouble on the busy residency road and police arrested dozens of protesters.
The protesters earlier announced to hold protests outside the residences of cabinet ministers on August 12.
The protests and the police action against them created trouble for some time on the busy residency road however the situation soon returned to normal.
