Police did not allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to hold a press conference at his Nigeen residence on Thursday. Authorities deployed dozens of police personnel who virtually sieged the Mirwaiz manzil by installing barbed wire on the both entry points and did not allow media persons to enter the premises.
A Hurriyat(M) spokesman said that Police locked the Mirwiaz manzil from outside and did not allow anybody to come out of the house. He condemned the police siege of Mirwiaz manzil and called it as a “barbaric” act.
Meanwhile Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that he will be announcing a joint strategy after meeting his faction of Hurriyat constituents and the leadership outside Hurriyat. “Mirwaiz will announce a joint strategy after meeting with all the Hurriyat constituents and the leadership outside Hurriyat,” a Hurriyat spokesman said quoting Mirwaiz.
The statement added that Mirwaiz has strongly denounced the continuous house arrest of Syed Ali Geelani in Delhi. Syed Ali Geelani, is under house arrest in his Delhi residence since Afzal Guru was secretly hanged in Tihar jail on February 9.
Earlier the chairman, of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq , who arrived to Srinagar Thursday afternoon was arrested and taken to Police station Nageen.
“I had gone to receive Mirwaiz Sahab, there was a large deployment of police on the airport, as soon as Mirwaiz Sahab came out he was arrested and taken to police station Nigeen,” close aide of Mirwaiz, Shahid-ul-Islam Told Kashmir Life.
Later Mirwaiz was taken to his residence and put under house arrest.
Mirwaiz was back from Delhi after twelve days of house arrest since February 9. He was released on Tuesday evening.
Mirwaiz had to preside over a very crucial meeting of Hurriyat Conference at Rajbagh’s Hurriyat head office. Sources said that Mirwaiz had to address a press conference after the meeting and made an important announcement about the joint strategy of both the factions of Hurriyats.
