Police on Monday said that the news carried by media regarding the arrest of a student of Women’s college M A road Sringar is ‘baseless’.

The spokesman in a statement said that apropos to the news carried by some media houses and web portals regarding the arrest of a student of women’s college M A road Srinagar, the news is strongly rebutted.

He said that it was an endeavour of the police with family and teachers to counsel the individual.

We also thank teachers, parents and students who played a key role with police in ensuring order, said a police spokesman.

Earlier, a family member of the student (name withheld), studying at Women’s college Srinagar said that she was detained by police on Monday around 3: 00 pm; along with her father, and then they both were released around 11 at night. The girl was taken to Police station Kothi Bagh by women police on today morning as well.

Pertinently, the students were protesting against the rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua. Since the Crime Branch of police released a detailed charge sheet of the crime, student protests, which have been going on for the past two weeks now, refuse to die down.
