SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested a notorious drug peddler in the Ganderbal district and seized 9.8 kg of contraband from his possession. In a separate incident, a drug consumer was also arrested and sent to a rehabilitation centre in Awantipora.
According to police, acting on credible information, a special team from Police Station Gund, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, conducted a raid at a cowshed belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Chichi, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Chichi, a resident of Chichipati Hariganiwan. The team recovered 9.8 kilograms of Bhang Patri powder concealed in a nylon bag.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and an FIR No. 18/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Gund. Further investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in South Kashmir’s Awantipora, police apprehended a person in suspicious circumstances, who was later identified as Mehraj-Ud-Din Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, a resident of Lethpora. During questioning, he admitted to being a regular drug user.
Ganie was taken to the Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in Tral, where tests confirmed drug use. An FIR No. 110/2025 under applicable legal provisions has been filed at Police Station Awantipora.
