SRINAGAR: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Shopian and Sopore, recovering contraband substances from their possession, officials said.
In Shopian, a police team from Police Station Shopian, during a checkpoint at Girward Zawoora, intercepted two suspicious individuals, identified as Basharat Ali, son of Bahadur Ali, and Mohd Mushtaq Thakker, son of Ab Rashid Thakker, both residents of Dandoot, Rajouri. A search led to the recovery of 739 grams of heroin-like substance from their possession. Authorities have initiated further investigation to trace their supply and distribution networks.
Meanwhile, in Sopore, a police team from Police Post Fruit Mandi, under the supervision of SDPO Sopore and SHO Police Station Sopore, arrested Shakir Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Nabi Khan, a resident of Reban, during patrolling at Reban area. A search resulted in the seizure of 103 grams of charas-like substance.
All three accused have been arrested, and cases under relevant legal provisions have been registered against them. Investigations are ongoing to identify any larger drug networks linked to the arrested individuals.
