Suspected militants late Wednesday evening shot dead a cop at Naina area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
The militants barged into the house of Police constable Muhammad Altaf Wani son of Ghulam Ahmad at Naina area of Batpora in Shopian at around 8.30 p.m, a senior police official told GNS.
He said that the militant opened indiscriminate firing on Wani before fleeing from the spot.
The 28-year-old Wani was rushed to the hospital by his relatives and neighbours but succumbed on the way, he said.
Soon after the incident, army and police launched searches in the area to nab the assailants, sources said.
