Srinagar

A day after Police claimed they busted a LeT module handled by a Hajin resident Inayat Akbar Parrey, the family members of Parrey while refuting the police allegations said that police harassment forced him to go underground.

The relatives of alleged LeT worker, who assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar on Friday morning, said that Police arrested five family members of Inayat Parrey and kept them in lock up for 20 days.

The protesting family members carried placards and banners that read: ‘Militants are not born but are created by Police.’

“Two family members including the father of the accused have been released while his two brothers and cousin are still in lock up. What kind of justice is it that police arrest others when they have done nothing,” said a relative.

Haleema Bano, the mother of the accused told news agency CNS that her son is being witch hunted by Police. “The Police frequently used to call my son to police stations even though he was associated with media and had nothing to do with militants. His only fault was that he exposed the ‘brutalities’ of police in the district,” she said and termed the police allegations baseless.

“In a bid to force my son to appear before police, my two sons and their cousin are still languishing in lock up. We appeal police to release them and allow my son to live a peaceful life. Please don’t push my son (Inayat) to wall and force him to join militant ranks,” Haleema said.

She said it is disgusting on part of police to claim that her son has been absconding from October 20, 2016. “Till May 15, 2017, when police raided our house, my son Inayat was at home. Police are manipulating facts and trying to push my son towards militancy,” she said vehemently refuted the allegations that her son is an Over Grounder Worker of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Pertinently, Bandipora police claimed to have busted Lashkar-i-Toiba module by arresting five alleged Over Ground Workers (OGW’s) in Hajin area handled by one Inayat Akbar Parrey who was stringer with a New Delhi based news channel for Bandipora district.

Police have identified the arrested LeT workers as Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir resident of Paribal Hajin, Muhammad Younis Bhat son of Sunaullah Bhat, Shabir Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Majeed Dar both residents of Chandergair, Hajin, Hilal Ahmad Parrey son of Ghulam Ahmad Kochak-Mohalla Hajin and Sunaullah Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Gund Jahengeer Hajin.
