Day after Padshahi Bagh residents staged a protest demonstration and accused the police of ‘shielding the killers’ of Zahid Iqbal, police on Tuesday rejected the allegations and said that the cause of death has not become clear till now.

“Investigation is going on under section 174 CRPC, under this section we cannot arrest anybody but we are trying hard to ascertain the facts. We are waiting for the report by which we will come to know the cause of death. The notion that the killers are being shielding by police is completely baseless. I assure the family that who so ever is guilty will not be spared,” Syed Afad ul Mujtaba, DIG Central Kashmir Range told KNS.

The protesters on Monday had accused the police for delaying arrest of culprits and shielding them. Pertinently, the body of a Padshahi Bagh youth, who was missing since August 23, was fished out from Jhelum near LD Hospital on August 26. The incident had triggered instant protests with the bereaved suspecting that it could be a murder. KNS
