SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has sanctioned the release of Rs 70 lakh as Special Welfare Relief for families of deceased cops and SPOs following their expiry recently, a police spokesman said.

A sum of Rs 20 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of the families of senior grade constables, Mohammad Younis and Zahoor Ahmad who expired due to illness while in service. The police had already released Rs one lakh each to them for performing the last rites. The financial assistance has been released from the Contributory Police Welfare Fund. The spokesman offered no more details.

Besides, special relief of Rs 5 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of families of deceased SPO’s Liyaqat Ali, Amit Sharma, Parveen Kumar, Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Sarwar and Arvind Kumar. Rupees 50,000 each had been already paid to their families for performing the last rites. This amount is being released from the Contributory Welfare Fund of SPOs.
