SRINAGAR: Police in Shopian rescued an 11-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from the Chitragam area of Zainapora and arrested the accused within hours of the incident.
According to officials, the case came to light when the Station House Officer of Police Station Zainapora received a WhatsApp complaint from a resident of Chitragam Zainapora, reporting that his minor sister had gone missing from her home around 2 pm.
Acting immediately, police registered an FIR and launched a search operation. Based on technical inputs and coordinated efforts, the kidnapped girl was traced to Kulgam district and recovered safely.
Police arrested the accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Gund Chal Kulgam, who was found involved in the kidnapping. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, lauded the swift action of the police team and urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s activities, including their online interactions.
