SRINAGAR: Police in Shopian on Thursday seized 1.2 kilograms of cannabis from a residential house in Zainapora as part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics in the district.
Police said a case under FIR No. 117/2025 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Zainapora after specific information was received. A search warrant was subsequently obtained from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Shopian.
A police team, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residence of Khursheed Ahmad Itoo in Takiya Reben Zainapora, where the cannabis-like substance was recovered. The accused, however, was not present during the raid and is currently absconding. Police said efforts to trace and arrest him are underway.
The district police reiterated their commitment to fighting drug abuse and urged residents to share information related to narcotics. They said identities of informants will be kept confidential and provided a helpline for reporting drug-related activity.
