SRINAGAR: Handwara Police have intensified their drive against illegal mining, seizing five vehicles involved in unlawful excavation and transportation of minerals in the district.
Police said teams from Police Post Langat, Police Post Chogul and Police Station Kralgund, led by supervisory officers, intercepted and seized two tippers and three tractors bearing registration numbers JK09B-2078, JK09B-4016, JK09B-1143, JK09B-3804 and Ch No-NKD2TAE-0562.
Proceedings under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act have been initiated, and further investigation is under way, officials confirmed.
Police have urged community members to share information about illegal mining activities in their areas, assuring strict legal action against offenders.
