SRINAGAR: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district have seized the property of a known drug offender under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The offender, identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar from Tulkhan, Bijbehara, has been repeatedly arrested for drug-related crimes. His most recent detention on September 6, 2024, resulted in the recovery of a significant quantity of Codeine Phosphate, according to officials.
“Based on concrete evidence of illicit earnings used to acquire property, the Bijbehara Police Station seized a residential property owned by Javaid in Tulkhan, valued at over Rs 45 lakh,” the police reported.
An FIR (No. 178/2024) was registered under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act, adding to Javaid’s long list of offenses, which includes cases dating back to February 2020.
The investigation uncovered that Javaid’s primary income came from agriculture—insufficient to justify his real estate investments—triggering action under Section 68(1) of the NDPS Act. This legal provision freezes the property, preventing any sale or modifications.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on narcotics trafficking in the region. (KINS)
