A police follower lost his life when his service riffle went off ‘accidently’ during the wee hours on Friday in North Kashmir’s Handwara Town.

Superintendent of Police Handwara Chodhri Mohammad Aslam told CNS that police is investigating the matter whether the said police follower committed suicide or died due to accidental fire.

Police sources said that Abdul Majeed Khan resident of Hafrad Vilgam died due to bullet injuries under his chin at the Handwara camp of special operation group.

Khan, who was working as a follower in the police, sustained the injuries in “accidental” firing, the sources said.

It was not immediately clear whether Khan was killed due to mis-firing from his own weapon or from the weapons of any of his colleagues.Police has started an inquiry into the incident.
