Upon identification it came to fore that the said youth was a resident of Shopian and is working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) in Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The youth later thrashed the SPO before cops from Nigeen Police station reached the spot and rescued him. He was later taken to Police station Nigeen.

A police official at the Nigeen police station told Kashmir Life that Raiees had come to meet his brother who is a student at Kashmir University. “His brother is a student of 3rd semester student at the Department of Mathematics at Kashmir University. Raiees had come to meet him on Wednesday and stayed with him for the night,” the police official said.

He said that today Raiees left the rented accommodation of his brother at Habak to stroll in Hazratbal. However, he was mistaken as a “braid chopper” and beaten to pulp. “It was only after the police reached the spot that Raiees could be rescued from the mob.” He was later sent to a hospital for treatment.

Sources in the Kashmir varsity confirmed to Kashmir Life that Raiees had come to meet his brother Amir Hussain Lone on wdnesday. Both had spent the night together at Amir’s rented accommodation at Habak.

Pertinently, a braid chopping incident took place in the same area, last night, where Raiees was thrashed.
