SRINAGAR: A young policeman was shot dead in Wanpoh belt of Kulgam. The spot is located on the main national highway.
Police sources identified the slain cop as Bantu Sharma son of Nathji. The incident took place near Shamford School, not far away from his residence. After being shot, Sharma was immediately evacuated to Government Medical College, Anantnag, hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Sources told Kashmir Life that the slain cop was a follower in police and was posted in Kulgam. He was a local from a family that had not migrated out of Kashmir. He was shot dead near his home.
Reports said the police quickly moved and cordoned off the area to nab the assailants. So far, there has not been any breakthrough.
Police have registered a case and investigations have begun.
