KL Report

Srinagar

Asserting that the statements of Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi during their recent visit to Kashmir were a new beginning of a peace process, former interlocutor on Kashmir, Radha Kumar Thursday said it would build a road for the political settlement of Kashmir issue.

“PM’s and Sonia Gandhi’s statements during the visit are encouraging and this has given us hope that the GoI would soon take steps for the implementation of our report”, the renowned academic Prof Radha Kumar told KNS on Thursday. She said that the economic and developmental packages would pave way for the mega development of the state “but had there been a Political package it would have been icing on the cake”.

Expressing optimism for the early implementation of the report which she along with her colleagues Dilip Padgaonkar and M.M.Ansari had presented to GOI in 2011, Radha said, “We all will be meeting very soon to chalk out a strategy how to urge GoI for the implementation of the report, because we have worked extensively for one long year before presenting it to the government”, Radha told KNS, adding that Chief Minister Omar Abdulaha’s advocacy for the implementation was encouraging for them, and for the people of the Jammu and Kashmir. She however admitted that they did not push for the early implementation of the report as they feared people would take it otherwise.

“Some small recommendations have been implemented but it is still a long way to go ahead and we are hopeful that the GOI would take steps for the early implementation of the report”, said Radha Kumar.
