SRINAGAR: Simran Singh, a renowned freelance radio jockey and Instagram influencer from Jammu and Kashmir, was tragically found dead in her rented apartment in Gurugram’s Sector 47, police confirmed on Thursday. Known to her fans as “Jammu Ki Dhadkan” (Heartbeat of Jammu), the 25-year-old had a massive following of nearly seven lakh on Instagram, where she last posted a reel on December 13.

The incident came to light on Wednesday night when a friend, who shared the apartment with Simran, contacted the police after finding her room locked from the inside. Upon forcing the door open, authorities discovered her body hanging in the room. No suicide note was recovered from the scene. Simran was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, and her body has since been handed over to her family following a post-mortem.
Police have stated that preliminary investigations suggest suicide, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Simran’s family revealed she had been distressed in recent days but did not hold anyone accountable for her death.
Simran, who hailed from Jammu, was celebrated for her vivacious personality and ability to connect with listeners. Her fans admired her as a symbol of cultural pride for Jammu and Kashmir. Her last Instagram post shared a light-hearted caption, “Just a girl with endless giggles and her gown, taking over the beach.”
Political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir expressed their condolences. Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted her contributions to the region’s cultural identity. In a joint statement, they described her as a “voice and charm that resonated with the spirit of Jammu and Kashmir” and extended their sympathies to her family and fans.
Simran’s untimely passing has left her followers and the local community grieving the loss of a vibrant personality who had brought joy to countless lives through her work.
