Post-Encounter, protests erupt in Hajin; Arms, Ammunition recovered, says police

After the two militants were killed in a gun battle between militants and army in Bonikhan area of Hajin in Bandipora district Tuesday morning, hundreds of people especially youth assembled in Hajin Chowk and staged protests demanding the bodies of the slain militants. Reports reachi9ng here said, as the news of the death of militants spread in the area, hundreds of people took to streets and staged pro-freedom protests.

Earlier, acting on specific information about the presence of some militants, the joint team of army’s 13 RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned Bonikhan area of Hajin in the wee hours.

As the search operation was going on, the hiding militants fired on the security forces, police sources said.

“The security forces retaliated triggering an encounter,” they said.

Meanwhile, Police on Tuesday claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site. “Two notes of Rs 2000 and some other cash was also recovered from the site.”

Protests at Hajin were going on till reports last came in.
