To tackle the growing incidents of stone pelting in the valley, Director General Police (DGP) K Rajindra Kumar Sunday said that the stone pelters were mostly minors and police will hold counselling sessions for them.

“Most of the stone pelters are minors. We don’t want to go tough against them. We will identify them and will do their counselling,” the DGP told KNS over phone. “Police will call their parents and will talk to them. The need to be engaged in youth centric programs. I hope after they will be engaged in the youth programs they won’t indulge in stone pelting.”

However, the DGP said, at the same time the police are looking into all the aspects that lead to the stone pelting in the valley. “We are looking into all those aspects and will address all the reasons which instigate the youth for stone pelting,” he said.

“Police is also contemplating to provide computer education to all misguided unemployed youth who have taken to stone for pecuniary gains. After going through counselling sessions, numbers of youths have vowed that they will never resort to stone pelting again,” Rajindra said.

The DGP added that the police will not allow anybody to disturb the law and order situation in Kashmir. “Rule of law will be enforced strictly to ensure peace. The police will respect the citizens who are law abiding and I will make sure that the common masses should not come across any trouble from the police forces,” he said.
