Electricity crisis in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir sparked a protest against Power Development Department on Wednesday while protesters claimed they have never seen such power crisis in decades of Kargil history as it has been this time around.

Eyewitnesses told local news agency CNS that hundreds of people staged protest outside the office of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and alleged that even those areas of the district were brought under the ambit of Chutuk Hydel Power project that had been excluded when the Project was commissioned. “This politically motivated move affected the people of Kargil who have now been witnessing five hours power curtailment on daily basis,” the protesters said.

The protesters warned that they will hit to roads on daily basis if power schedule is not revised and electricity in the district not supplied properly.
