SRINAGAR: In a significant push to upgrade and stabilise Kashmir’s power infrastructure, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has announced a series of planned shutdowns to facilitate ongoing developmental works across multiple districts. These works are part of the UT Capex 2023-24 and various critical infrastructure projects being executed by government agencies and contractors.
According to the Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, the construction of Phases II and III of the 33KV GIS Lassipora–Pulwama line, under the power evacuation project from GIS Lassipora, will necessitate the shutdown of the 33KV Lassipora–Pulwama line. As a result, Receiving Stations at Pulwama, Pinglana, Tenghar, Covid Hospital, and MM Floor Mill will remain off, affecting power supply to Main Pulwama and several adjoining areas, including Monghama, Sirnoo, Thamuna, and Gangoo. The scheduled outage will occur from 09:00 AM to 04:30 PM on April 14, 16, 20 and 22.
In Srinagar, essential stabilization work on the 11 kV Mughal Masjid feeder and power extension to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Ali Jan Road will be carried out. For safety, the 33 kV Khanyar line and the 33 kV Bagh-i-Ali Mardan Khan–Takanwari line will be shut down, affecting the Receiving Stations at Khanyar, Rainawari, and Takanwari. Consequently, localities including Miskeen Bagh, Hasanabad, Palpora, Sangam, and Fateh Kadal will face outages from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM on April 15, 17 and 19.
Further north, in Baramulla district, work related to the four-lane paved shoulder on the Pattan bypass by Beacon Authority will necessitate shutdowns of the 33 kV Pattan–Amargarh and 33 kV HMT lines. This will affect Receiving Stations at Hamray, Palhalan, Nihalpora, Mirgund and Singhpora, with power outages scheduled from 10:00 AM to 03:30 PM on April 16.
Similarly, in Shopian and Kupwara districts, shutdowns have been scheduled to facilitate pole erection and conductor stringing works. The 33 kV Markundal Tap line will be shut down to allow the erection of an 11-metre ST pole at Aglar, while the 33 kV Keran Tap line will be shut down for stringing of the Harie feeder conductor.
Meanwhile, to stabilise existing infrastructure by shifting conductors to newly erected poles, shutdowns of the 33KV Wanpoh, Ashajipora and Wanpoh Malaknag lines will be observed. This will affect Receiving Stations and supply in parts of Anantnag, including Ashajipora, Dialgam, Malaknag, and Brakpora on April 15 and 17 from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM.
