SRINAGAR: Authorities on Friday again disallowed the weekly congregational prayers at the grand mosque in downtown Srinagar, a spokesman of the Anjuman Auqaf said.

In a statement, the spokesman said that Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed strong resentment over the decision by authorities to once again disallow Friday prayers at Jammu and Kashmir’s largest place of worship – the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar. It has vehemently condemned the action.

He said that the Anjuman and the Muslims of Kashmir are unable to understand that why Jama Masjid Srinagar continues to be selectively banned and restricted from holding Friday prayers, which is extremely unfortunate and incomprehensible.

“It is extremely unfortunate and disdainful of the authorities to disallow Muslims of the valley from praying at the Central mosque by use of brute force and cause then hurt and grief. Muslims of the valley denounce this injustice and interference in religious freedom in strongest terms the Anjuman said and register their protest,” said the spokesman.
