SRINAGAR: On the 16th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday remembered the security personnel who lost their lives while safeguarding civilians and said the country remains indebted to their sacrifice.
The attacks carried out in Mumbai from November 26 to 29, 2008, by 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives resulted in the deaths of 175 people, including 26 foreign nationals and 20 security force personnel.
Nine of the attackers were killed during the operations, while Ajmal Kasab — captured alive — was later executed after trial.
In a message posted on X, President Murmu said the nation will always honour the courage of those who fought the terrorists and laid down their lives. She urged citizens to renew their resolve to confront terrorism in all forms and contribute toward building a secure and prosperous India.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the victims and personnel, recalling the “heinous” and “cowardly” attack.

He said the sacrifices of the security forces will always remain inspirational and reiterated that terrorism threatens humanity as a whole. Shah stressed that the Modi government’s zero-tolerance policy has received support across the world, strengthening India’s counter-terror efforts.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also shared his tribute on X, remembering both the security personnel and civilians who were killed. He said the country will never forget their bravery and sacrifice.
