Hurriyat conference (G) has alleged that the political detainees in sub jail Baramulla are being harassed and maltreated by jail authorities. Expressing the serious concern over the plight of detainees, Ayaz Akbar the spokesperson of party said, “The jail authorities have turned the said jail into interrogation center and pro freedom detainees are subjected to third degree torture.”
The party has alleged that jail sans basic amenities like electricity and medical aid. “There is no proper medical facility and no medicines are being provided to the detainees and the medicines have to be purchased from open market for needy and ailing persons”, said Akbar.
In a statement, Hurriyat (G) has alleged that Maqsood Ahmad Bhat, a detainee in the sub jail is suffering from chronic lumber pain and doctors have suggested him hard bed treatment, which the authorities are denying and the condition of Maqsood has gone bad to worse. Further the spokesman said that there is no heating arrangement and the power supply to the jail has been curtailed to the extent of 80 per cent, because of which detainees spend the sleepless nights and shiver with the extreme cold.
“As a rule distinction between criminals and political prisoners is established fact and there is nothing extra ordinary that political prisoners deserve the noble treatment but here it is quite different and it is non-existent in sub jail Baramulla”, reads the statement.
Spokesman has also urged the Amnesty International to take cognizance and take serious notice of the condition of detainees in jail and exert pressure on authorities to provide and improve its medical facility at sub jail.
Meanwhile, a team of Hurriyat conference lead by Mohammad Altaf Shah and Mohammad Yusuf Mujahid visited the town hall and Syed Pora area in Sopore. The people informed the team that army personals destroyed their orchards and residential houses. The two leaders visited the families of slain militants and extended their sympathy and prayed for them.
