It was the coldest night in Kargil District where the temperature dipped to -19 degree Celsius and Drass the second coldest inhabited place in the world recorded minimum -27 degree Celsius and due to which People are facing lots of problem.
The villagers of Prandrass village protested at SDM office Drass and demanded snow clearance of Drass-Prandrass Road, sources said. They added that three protestor namely, Ghulam Mohammad, Mohammad Yaseen and Abdul Hamid were admitted to Sub District Hospital Drass as they got ill due to protesting in freezing cold.
The Deputy Commissioner Kargil Fida Hussain said that the Snow Clearance on the said road will start and be cleared by two days.
In the meantime due to the dipping temperature the water level in the Suru River is decreasing leading to decrease in the power generation from Chutuk Hydel Project which in turn leads to power cuts on regular interval..
