During the budget discussion, NC MLA Showkat Hussain Ganie criticised the BJP for its actions in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few years and referenced 1947.

As Showkat was speaking, BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma interrupted, asking him to talk about 1931.

“They are our heroes,” NC MLA Altaf Kaloo responded.

Countering him, BJP MLA Sunil Sharma said that they were traitors and would remain so, triggering strong protests from NC and Kashmir-based opposition parties.

Amid the uproar, CPI (M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami urged the Speaker to take note of Sharma’s remarks.

“Derogatory remarks were used against the martyrs of 1931. They were called traitors. Maintain the decorum of the House. You are the actual traitors,” Tarigami said, addressing BJP legislators.

MLA Langate Khursheed Sheikh demanded that Sharma’s remarks be expunged. Later, the Speaker ordered the remarks to be removed from the record. (KNO)
