Fayaz Ahmad Rather

Expressing concern over the condition of Kashmiri political prisoners in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail and the ill treatment meted to them by the jail authorities, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Thursday appealed the international human rights organizations to take note of the situation.

Stating that Kashmiri political prisoners in different jails of India were “facing threat to their lives with the inhuman treatment meted to them by the jail authorities”, the Hurriyat amalgam said, “the detention of these political prisoners is prolonged despite release orders from the courts.”

He appealed the international human rights bodies to take note of the condition of these prisoners and use their influence on Government of India to stop ill treatment with these prisoners and release them in compliance with the court orders.

Hurriyat (m) condemned the government for arresting Fayaz Ahmad Rather of Bogam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam region, who is a member of local Auqaf Committee, and lodged in Kathua Jail under PSA.

Accusing police of framing Rather and fabricating a case against him, the Hurriyat statement said, “he was being punished for imparting religious education to children.”

Terming the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) against him as “state-sponsored terrorism”, the statement added, “it was worst kind of violation of human rights.”
