PSI, Driver Held for Accepting Bribe in Jammu

   

SRINAGAR: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday trapped and arrested the Incharge Police Post at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, and his driver for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000.

A spokesman in a statement said, “Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that PSI Murtaza Rehman, Incharge PP GMC Jammu, and his driver/SPO, Himanshu Sharma, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for allowing a Rehari at the exit gate of GMC Jammu. The accused had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for running the Rehari. As the complainant did not wish to pay the bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the accused public servants.”

After receiving the complaint, the spokesman said a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for a bribe. “Accordingly, a case under FIR number 06/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS, 2023. Investigation was taken up.”

“During the investigation, a trap team led by a Gazetted officer was constituted. The team laid a trap and caught PSI Murtaza Rehman and his driver/SPO Himanshu Sharma red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 13,000 from the complainant, in the presence of independent witnesses,” the spokesman said.

He added that the accused were arrested on the spot by the ACB team following due legal procedure. The bribe amount was recovered from their possession in the presence of the witnesses. Searches are also being conducted at the residential premises of both accused in the presence of independent witnesses and Magistrates.
