Panic gripped in Wachi area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday night when the security guards of a senior People’s Democratic Party worker allegedly fired couple of shots in air after he ‘mistook’ animal shadow as militants.

Locals informed CNS that a security guard attached with the PDP senior worker Athar Hussain, after he mistook the shadow of some animals as militants.

“The incident occurred at around 11:30 on Wednesday night. We woke up after hearing continuous gun shots. We thought that some militants might have attacked the PDP leader but that proved wrong when we came out to assess the situation,” said a local.

Confirming the incident, a police official, however, said that it was a misfire and denied that any such incident occurred in Wachi Constituency while another official said that it was a misfire.
