Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said that slain militants killed in Pulwama encounter was affiliated with Hizbul mujihideen militant outfit.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the two slain militants have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Sheikh resident of Naira, Tahab, Pulwama and Irfan Ahmad Rather resident of Litter, Pulwama.

He said that slian militants as per police records were affiliated with proscribed outfit HM and were wanted by law for their complicity in crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

“According to the police records, both the slian were part of groups involved in planning & executing attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against them,” said the spokesman.

“Pertinently, militant Irfan Sheikh was involved in weapon snatching at Tumlahal,” he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” he added.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
