The train service has been suspended in south Kashmir for security reasons following the killing in Rinzipora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

“We have suspended train services in south Kashmir for security reasons,” a railway official said.

He said the service will be resumed only after they get a fresh advisory from the authorities.

The decision to suspend the train service was taken on the advice of local authorities and police in view of apprehension of violence.

However, trains will chug on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule, he said.

Earlier, a militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Rinzipora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
