Pulwama Hits –5°C as Kashmir Valley Shivers

   

SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley remained gripped by intense cold as night temperatures dropped sharply across the region, with several locations falling well below freezing, according to meteorological data.

Summer capital of Jammu Kashmir, Srinagar recorded a minimum of –4.0°C, while nearby Pampore dropped to –5.0°C. Pulwama was the coldest in the region at –5.6°C. Pahalgam, Anantnag and Baramulla each registered –4.8°C, and Gulmarg stood at –1.0°C. Kokernag was comparatively milder at –0.8°C.

Elsewhere in the Valley, Kupwara posted –3.2°C, Budgam –4.2°C, Bandipora –3.9°C, Ganderbal –2.6°C and Awantipora –4.0°C. Sonamarg recorded –3.6°C, while Zojila Pass remained the coldest point at a severe –17.0°C. Zethan Rafiabad reported –4.6°C.

Temperatures in the winter capital, Jammu region were considerably higher, with Jammu recording 8.0°C and Katra 8.4°C. Banihal and Udhampur settled at 2.1°C and 3.0°C, respectively, while Bhaderwah dropped to 0.4°C. Samba stood at 3.3°C, Rajouri at 1.7°C and Kathua at 7.2°C.

In Ladakh, the deep freeze persisted. Leh recorded –9.0°C, while Kargil and the Nubra Valley registered –7.8°C and –7.6°C, respectively.
