After the arrest of two alleged braid choppers by Jammu Kashmir Police, agitated mob set the house of one of the accused on fire in Monghama village of Pulwama district in southern Kashmir on Wednesday.

Reports said that police had taken cognizance of a video that had gone viral on social media on October 7 in which the mother of the victim was seen accusing PDP-led government and Police of shielding braid choppers. The victim (name withheld) wife of Abdul Rashid Sofi of Monghama village had alleged that miscreants cut her braid after knocking her unconscious.

Barely two days after the incident, the victim was once again allegedly attacked and again her hair was chopped off. The family of the victim claimed that they identified the miscreants and lodged a complaint at police station Pulwama.

Police sources said that both the accused were brought to police station where the family members of the victim identified them. “Currently, they are in the lock up and we are questioning them. The accused have claimed that they are working in Children’s Hospital Srinagar. We have asked the Hospital authorities to provide CCTV footage to check whether at the time of incident accused were present in the hospital or they were present in Monghama village,” SSP Pulwama Chowdhary Muhammad Aslam told news agency CNS.

SSP Pulwama said that they have assured the victims family that thorough probe will be conducted and if proved, accused will face the music under law.

The accused have been identified as Muhamamd Shafi Sheikh of Monghama and Gulzar Mochi of Sonwar Srinagar.

Meanwhile, agitated people set the house of one of the accused Muhammad Shafi Shiekh on fire in Monghama village, a report confirmed by police.

“We have taken cognizance of the incident. Action will be initiated against the guilty,” said SSP Pulwama.
