Pulwama, Shopian Freeze at Minus 9.1 Deg Celsius as Cold Wave Grips Kashmir 

   

SRINAGAR: Srinagar shivered under freezing conditions today, with the city recording a bone-chilling minimum temperature of -7.3°C. Across the Kashmir Valley, temperatures plummeted, leaving several places reeling under severe cold. Pulwama and Shopian experienced the coldest conditions, with the mercury dipping to -9.1°C in both districts. Anantnag was equally frigid at -9.0°C, while Budgam followed closely at -7.8°C. Khudwani recorded -7.7°C, and Larnoo shivered at -8.6°C.

Sonamarg, known for its picturesque landscapes, recorded -7.5°C, while nearby Bandipora noted -7.2°C. Other areas, including Ganderbal, were not spared, with temperatures plunging to -6.9°C. Baramulla and Kupwara were slightly less cold at -6.1°C and -6.4°C respectively, while Kokernag recorded -5.4°C. The temperature in Pahalgam plummeted to -8.4°C and in Gulmarg, it was recorded at -6.6°C.

In the Jammu region, the cold was less intense but still notable. Jammu city recorded 7.1°C, a stark contrast to the freezing temperatures in Kashmir. Banihal was among the colder spots at -1.3°C, and Padder in Kishtwar district recorded a frigid -9.5°C. Other areas, including Batote, Katra, and Kathua, saw milder conditions with minimums ranging from 0.7°C to 6.7°C. Udhampur and Rajouri recorded minimums of 2.3°C and 2.2°C respectively, while Poonch noted 2.9°C. Bhaderwah also witnessed a sub-zero temperature at -1.6°C.

Ladakh remained the coldest region, with Leh plunging to -12.6°C and Kargil recording -12.0°C. The temperatures in Drass, often referred to as the coldest inhabited place in India, were not available but are expected to be significantly lower.
