Pulwama

Two local militant have been killed and three government forces personnel including an army officer sustained injuries in an encounter between militants and government forces in Chandpora village of district Pulwama. Seven civilians also sustained injuries when the government forces resorted to firing to disperse the protesters.

Quoting DIG, South Kashmir Vijay Kumar, a police statement said that the two militants have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Teli @ Fahadullah Kashmiri resident of Pulwama and Mohammad Aamir Bhat @ Khalid @ Khursheed resident of Shopian. During the encounter, one Major, one captain of army and a policeman were also injured.

“When the army Major was being evacuated for treatment, a mob attacked the ambulance at Pulwama, by hurling stones. In the retaliatory action, seven persons got injured,” the statement added.

Injured have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, Ashiq Ahmad, Jahangir Ahmed, Gowhar Ahmad, Imran Bhat, Showkat Mir and Younis Mir. One injured has been admitted in Bone and Joints Hospital, and six in SMHS Srinagar for treatment.

The statement also reads that Imtiyaz Ahmed Teli was involved in the grenade attack at Narwal in November this year, in which one person had died, and five others were injured. Police also said that the slain militants were involved in the grenade attack in Bijbehara as well in which four tourist ladies were killed in the month of July.

The encounter started after a tip off to Srinagar Police, Pulwama Police alongwith 55 RR and 182Bn. CRPF. During the search operation in village Chandgam, Asthan Mohalla, Pulwama, in the jurisdiction of police station Pulwama, the militants fired upon forces triggering an encounter in which two militants were killed.
