Chief Engineer PW (R&B) Central Kashmir, Er Sajad Naqeeb, said macadamisation work is underway in both regions, with around 320 kilometres of road length to be covered in central Kashmir alone. “Additionally, under C&T, NABARD, and the UT Sector, the department aims to macadamise at least 328 km this year. The work will be completed by August 15,” he said.

Naqeeb added that Rs 105 crore will be spent on the macadamisation works and that operations commenced on June 13.

Regarding quality control and monitoring, the Chief Engineer said the department has implemented a three-tier system to ensure strict quality checks. “Quality control will begin at the divisional level under the Executive Engineer. It will then be reviewed by Superintending Engineers, and finally by the State Quality Control unit,” he said. “A strict vigil is also being maintained at the macadam plants by the department’s engineering wing.”

Naqeeb further stated that after the macadam is laid, the Department of Inspection and Quality Control (DIQC) will conduct standard tests to verify the quality parameters. (KNO)
