Reacting over reports that Muslim Deni Mahaz jailed Chief Dr Qasim Faktoo is being released the Director General Police (DGP) K Rajendra Tuesday said no such proposal is with the government at present.

The state police chief while talking to KNS said that the reports over the release of Faktoo are mere rumors and merit no heed. “No, we don’t have any such proposal in hand to release Qasim Faktoo. The reports that galore at present are mere rumors and not the facts,” the DGP said, adding that anyone who is a convict cannot be set free.

Reports had said that the Jammu and Kashmir government was mulling to release Faktoo who has already served 22 years in prison. “As far as my knowledge is concerned, we don’t have any plan to set free Qasim Faktoo. The reports have no truth in them,” the police chief craified.

A senior official of the state dispensation and privy to chief minister’s secretariat also confirmed, while pleading anonymity, that the government has no proposal to free militants who are facing trial or against whom serious cases are registered. “The reports that are being carried in press are mere assumptions,” they said.

Fresh controversy broke out when the government on Saturday freed separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat from jail. The opposition created ruckus in the Parliament, seeking explanation from Government of India. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister had to clarify government’s stand over the issue, saying the decision taken over Masarat’s release was not taken in consultation with the BJP.

PDP later came in with, stating that Alam’s release was the part of CMP and vital for the establishment of peace in the state along with making healing touch a success.
