Sopore town of Baramulla district in northern part of Kashmir is observing a complete shutdown for the 3rd consecutive day against the killing of militants commander Abdul Qayoom najat.

“A complete shutdown is being observed in the native area of the slain militant on third consecutive day. All business establishments and shops are shut in the town while a skeletal movement of traffic is visible,” reports said.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in some parts of town, including main chowk, tehsil road, Batpora chowk and Chankhan area to prevent any untoward incident.

Believed to be the longest surviving militant commander of the valley, Najar was killed in a gunfight near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of the district on Tuesday.

Police said he was killed while he was trying to cross over to this side after meeting UJC chief Syed Salahuddin in Pakistan.
