SRINAGAR: Kashmir recorded an exceptional spell of October heat on Sunday, with Qazigund and Kokernag registering their highest-ever maximum temperatures for the month, while Srinagar and Gulmarg recorded their second-highest October readings.
According to data shared by Kashmir Weather, Qazigund recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4°C, which was 7.3°C above normal and surpassed its previous October record of 31.2°C set on October 1, 1985.
Kokernag also broke its October record, with the maximum temperature reaching 29.4°C, compared with the previous high of 29.2°C recorded on October 4, 2008. The temperature was 5.8°C above normal.
Srinagar recorded 31.2°C, its second-highest October maximum. The reading exceeded the previous October high of 31.1°C recorded on October 2, 2008, but remained below the station’s all-time October record of 33.9°C, set on October 2, 1931. Sunday’s temperature was 5.7°C above normal.
Gulmarg, despite its higher elevation, also experienced unusually high temperatures, recording 23.2°C. The reading surpassed the previous October high of 23.0°C recorded on October 3, 2026, making it the second-highest October temperature at the resort. Its all-time October record is 23.4°C, recorded on October 1, 2009. Sunday’s maximum was 6.7°C above normal.
The Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of rain from October 6, with snowfall expected in the higher reaches.
