SRINAGAR: Haji Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, a prominent Rabab player and former Radio Kashmir staffer from Kashmir Valley passed away on Saturday. He breathed his last at his ancestral home at Kreeri, Baramulla.
Bhat’s career spanned nearly three decades at Radio Kashmir.
Beyond the airwaves, Bhat represented the cultural richness of Jammu and Kashmir on stages across India and in diverse international locales, including Russia, Germany, Dubai, and Australia.
However, Bhat’s journey into the world of Rabab began before the partition, during a time when India and Pakistan were undivided. He honed his craft under the tutelage of masters in Afghanistan, reflecting the era of free movement for the people of Kashmir towards Central Asia and other regions.
