SRINAGAR: Scores of Congress workers, led by senior leadership, held a daylong “Maun Satyagraha (silent protest)” here on Wednesday in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Parliament.

Senior Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra stated that the “silent protest” was in support of Rahul Gandhi after his disqualification from Parliament and the subsequent dismissal of his appeal in a Gujarat court.

“The protest, taking place in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions, stands in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi Ji,” he said while addressing the media at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

“There is disturbance and chaos in the country. Democracy in the country has vanished; it has been replaced by autocracy,” he added.

The Congress workers, including a large number of women, covered their mouths with black clothes to express their protest.

Meanwhile, the Congress tweeted that J&K PCC President, Working President, and senior leaders participated in the ‘Maun Satyagraha’ near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Satwari Chowk in Jammu.

“Rahul Ji’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha has completely exposed the autocratic Modi Sarkar. No power can stop him from raising people’s voices!” the tweet mentioned.

“He (Rahul) has raised issues of corruption and is fighting to restore democracy in the country,” Karra said.

The ‘Maun Satyagraha’ follows the Gujarat High Court’s dismissal of Rahul Gandhi’s plea seeking a stay on his conviction in the Modi surname defamation case. (KNO)
