Railway police in Pathankote on Sunday claimed to have arrested a Hijbul Mujahdeen militant from the city’s cantonment railway station. The police identifies militant as Rayees Ul Islam, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, the railway police said in a statement.

Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a search operation on the Jammu-bound Sealdah Express. After the arrest, the police claims to have recovered two US made pistols, 40 live cartridges, Rs 50,000 in cash, and two mobile sets with SIM cards from his possession.

According to preliminary inquiry, Rayees was working with Hijbul Mujahdeen as a weapon carrier for about last two years, police said. “The terrorist was produced before Duty Magistrate here who remanded him in eight days in police custody,” spokesman further said.
