SRINAGAR: The Railway has launched its Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (M-UTS) at Jammu railway station to facilitate passengers during the festival season and emergencies, while inviting applications for five sahayak posts to assist in operating and expanding the service.
Under the initiative, railway commercial staff will issue unreserved journey and platform tickets through handheld devices connected to Bluetooth-enabled thermal printers. The facility will be available at platforms, waiting halls and other crowded areas of the station, officials said on Thursday.
Passengers will be able to pay for tickets either in cash or through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to stand in queues at ticket counters.
The railway administration has also invited applications from eligible candidates for five M-UTS sahayak posts to assist passengers and ensure the smooth functioning of the service. Retired railway employees may be given preference in accordance with the applicable rules.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the initiative would reduce congestion at ticket counters, save passengers’ time and help the Railway manage crowds more effectively during festivals and emergency situations.
He said the sahayaks would use mobile vending machines to issue tickets to passengers at the station.
