SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms during the next 24 hours, while isolated heavy rainfall is expected in the Jammu division, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said on Friday.
According to the weather bulletin issued at 11 am, maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours remained 3-5°C above normal at many places in Kashmir Division, while temperatures in Jammu Division were 1-2°C above normal at many places.
Srinagar and Kupwara recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 32.5°C, while Kathua recorded 33.4°C, the highest in Jammu Division.
Night temperatures also remained above normal, with minimum temperatures 1-3°C above normal at many places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 6.2°C, while Bhaderwah recorded 18.1°C in Jammu Division.
During the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded at AWS Argh Rajouri, which received 28 mm of rain.
The weather office has forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in Jammu Division. Scattered light rain and thunderstorms are expected during the following two days.
For the period from September 4 to September 10, the forecast shows fairly widespread rainfall in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions on Friday, followed by scattered activity on September 5 and 6. Isolated rainfall is expected from September 7 to 9, while scattered rainfall may continue in Jammu Division on September 10.
The Meteorological Centre has warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph in Kashmir Division on September 4.
For Jammu Division, the department has warned of isolated heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph. It has also cautioned about the possibility of landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods at vulnerable places.
For September 5, Srinagar is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures expected to range between 18°C and 32°C.
Jammu is likely to receive light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with a minimum temperature of 22°C and maximum of 30°C. Muzaffarabad is forecast to have generally cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms and temperatures between 18°C and 30°C, while Mirpur is likely to see partly cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 30°C.
The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain updated and exercise caution in view of the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and weather-related hazards in vulnerable areas.
