SRINAGAR: Both the plains and higher reaches of Jammu Kashmir experienced rainfall on Saturday, with the local weather agency forecasting the possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds at isolated places for the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, temperatures dropped in the afternoon following rainfall in Srinagar, and other areas of Kashmir.

“On Sunday, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snow in higher reaches is expected at many places, along with the possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds at isolated places,”  Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad  said.

He added that from April 15th to 16th, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy, with the possibility of light rain and snow in higher reaches at many places from the evening of the April 15 to the morning of the 16.

From April 17 to 18, generally dry weather with late thundershower activity is anticipated at a few places, he said, also mentioning that from April 19th to 20th, partly cloudy weather with light rain and snow at many places is expected from the evening of the 19th to the morning of the 20th.

He further noted that from April 21st to 23rd, generally dry weather with the possibility of thundershower activity cannot be ruled out.

In its detailed advisory, the MeT department advised farmers to suspend farm operations until April 16th.

Temporary disruption of surface transportation over a few higher reaches is expected during April 13th to 14th, with travelers and tourists advised to plan accordingly.

“Temporary waterlogging is expected in a few low-lying areas, and there is also a possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones,” the advisory reads—(KNO)
